KLANG: Three school students tested positive for drugs, while another two was found drunk during a special operations conducted to nab students playing truant here.

The 7.30am operation carried out by the Klang Education Office and three schools together with law enforcement agencies saw a total of 35 school students nabbed.

All of them, aged between 11 and 17, were still clad in their school uniform or school’s sports attire when arrested at several locations around the district.

Klang Education Office deputy chief Shokhimi Saman said the three students who abused drugs were all 16 years of age. Two tested positive for marijuana and the other, for methamphetamine.

The two students caught intoxicated, including one who passed out, were both 14.

“We were also shocked that these students are involved with drugs and alcohol at such young age. This can ruin their future,” he said.

Shokhimi said any action to be taken against the students for playing truant will be determined by their respective schools, while those who abused drugs might be sent to a rehabilitation centre, depending on the level of their addiction.

The operation saw the participation of teachers from SMK Tengku Ampuan Jamaah, SMK Raja Lumu, SMK Dato Hamzah, and officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency, Klang Selatan police headquarters, People’s Volunteers Corps and the Klang Municipal Council.
