U-turn poser for motorists with completion of new road

Residents of several villages voiced out the need for traffic lights at junctions leading to villages along the new Pan-Borneo Highway, which will be completed here soon.

Once the project was completed, affected villagers coming from Donggongon town would have to drive farther before making U-turns to return to their homes on the opposite side of the road.

A man, who only wanted to be known as Simon, from Kampung Limbanak said massive bottleneck situations during peak hours could be expected as motorists would have to make U-turns along the route.

He added areas around Kampung Limbanak alone had a large population of about 1,000 families, two schools, a clinic and a church.

Sabah Public Works Department senior assistant director (highway division) Yapp Vun Khun said the department had met with the villagers to help them understand the structure and design of the road.

“The U-turn there is just a kilometre from Donggongon town and other U-turns are farther than this.

“We advised the people to try out the new structure of the road. If there are still problems, then we will install traffic lights accordingly,” he added.
