Mobile app K3M enables faster response time to emergencies at sea

LANGKAWI: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today launched the Rakam 2.0 programme with the introduction of a new mobile application called K3M, which will enable the maritime community to report emergencies instantly.

K3M, which stands for awareness (kesedaran), safety (keselamatan) and community (komuniti), was launched in a bid to increase safety at sea for the community by shortening response time from the authorities such as the Navy and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Rakam 2.0 will connect the operation centre with the maritime community, including fishermen and resort operators, to enable the swift reporting of any incidents.

Previously, the Rakan Maritim (Rakam) or Friends of Maritime initiative was led by the Navy along with MMEA to enhance communication time but it was conducted through face-to-face communication.

As the initiative was well received by all parties, it had led to the Navy mooting to enhance communications with the maritime community, virtually.

At the launch ceremony, Hishammuddin presented mobile phones to maritime community representatives.
