Two killed in two separate road accidents in T'ganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two people were killed in two separate traffic incidents in Terengganu yesterday.

In the first mishap at Jalan Budiman, Batu Burok, a 48-year-old employee of the Marang Health office was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was riding was rammed into by a car at a traffic light junction.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the victim, Ahammaddin Harun, was on his way to fetch his son at a tuition centre in town when the accident occurred at 10.15pm.

"A 61-year-old driver of a Perodua Kenari rammed the victim from behind near the Jalan Budiman traffic light, as the victim was heading towards Panji Alam," Idris said, adding that the car's driver escaped unhurt.

He said Ahammaddin's body was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for a post mortem.

Meanwhile in Kuala Nerus, a 44-year-old woman was killed on the spot when her Perodua Viva collided with a Perodua Alza at Jalan Mengabang Lekor, Kuala Nerus.

Nor Aishah Yusof, 26, suffered serious head and bodily injuries in the 4.30pm incident.

Idris said the Perodua Alza was heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kampung Pagar Besi, while the victim's car was heading in the opposite direction.

"When their vehicles reached Jalan Kampung Mengabang Lekor, the victim's car suddenly swerved into the opposite lane, before colliding head-on with the Perodua Alza," he said.

The Perodua Alza’s driver suffered minor injuries.

Idris said both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987.
