KUALA LUMPUR: Five school teachers, who are staunch opposition party supporters, have been issued show cause letters for appearing on stage at an opposition party's gathering, and openly condemning the government.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the ministry views the five teachers’ act as an offence under the General Order.
"The five have been summoned to give an explanation for their action, failing which, disciplinary action can be taken at the ministry level," he said after launching the “Use 100 per cent recycled paper campaign” at the Impiana KLCC hotel here today.
Mahdzir said of the five, at least one holds a senior post in an opposition party.
"Dismissal is the last option, but we hope this will not reach that point," he said, refusing to elaborate further on the identities of the teachers, or the parties they support.
Mahdzir said it’s fine to complain or voice one’s frustrations, but this should be done constructively, through the proper channels.
"After all, this is a democratic country," he added.
