Women running group pledges RM1,000 to charities in Tambunan Kaamatan Charity Run

KOTA KINABALU: A women’s running group will be hitting the Tambunan Kaamatan Charity Run with a noble pledge this April.

The group will be donating RM1,000 to the beneficiaries of the charity run.

Patrisha Kitingan, 44, one of 11-member Running Bandits group, said it was the first time they have decided to donate the money to Bondulu Children’s Home in Toboh, La Salle Brothers Butitin Hostel in Nabawan, and the Tambunan Community Based Rehabilitation Centre.

“This is the time for individuals to start pledging donations for charity besides being just solely in it for the run.

“We will contact more running groups in Sabah to do the same,” said Patrisha, who is also the run’s joint organising chairperson.

Entering its third year, Patrisha said the 13.9km run, which will be held on April 30, will offer breathtaking sceneries along the route with the majestic Mount Kinabalu as backdrop.

Besides the run, there are traditional houses on display and visitors will also get to taste local delicacies and enjoy some community games on the same day.

She said the activities to be held in Tambunan are also to mark the beginning of the harvest festival in May.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Jinu, who is one of the pioneering members of the group, said the group comprised former students of SM St Francis Convent. The working mothers, all aged between 42 and 49, had formed the team a year after the first Borneo International Marathon was held in 2008.
