Kelantan Agriculture Ministry agency head remanded for graft

KOTA BARU: A state acting director of an agency under the Ministry of Agriculture was remanded for six days today by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting a RM3,500 bribe for a rice deal.

Kota Baru magistrate’s court assistant registrar Faizah Abdullah ordered the remand for the 56-year-old acting director under Section 117 of the Penal Code. The remand order ends next Tuesday.

Kelantan MACC director Datuk Moh Shamsuddin Yusof said the acting director, who is from Tanah Merah, was arrested by the MACC along with three other enforcement officers from the same agency, for accepting the amount from an individual at a restaurant in Kubang Kerian, at about 3.30pm yesterday.

"The four are believed to have taken the amount for a rice transport permit from Kelantan to Perak," said Moh.

He said the other three, in their 30s, were released today on MACC bail.
