Four Gang Civic members die in shootout with police in Wangsa Maju

KUALA LUMPUR: Four men, believed to be members of the Civic Gang, died in a shootout with the police in Section 10, Wangsa Maju, here this afternoon.

City police Criminal Investigation Department Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said the men, in their 30s, were shot dead in an exchange with gunfire with police about 12.30pm.

He said, the men had just robbed a Chinese national, 32, of RM40,000 when he alighted from a Grab ride and was about to enter the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM).

It is learnt that the victim had just withdrawn money from a bank in Sri Gombak. The men were believed to have tailed the victim from Sri Gombak to ITBM.

Several policemen on patrol in the area had witnessed the robbery take place and moved to act.

Rusdi said the robbers, upon seeing the policemen, fired several shots at the cops.

The policemen returned fire and killed the robbers.

Police found two machetes and two guns in a Honda Civic belonging to the men.

Rusdi said police have yet to ascertain the identities of the men.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
