Alleged victims of Puchong robbery-rape case finally come forward

KUALA LUMPUR: The alleged victims of a Puchong robbery-cum-rape case finally came forward yesterday evening to lodge police reports, Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said today.

He revealed that the alleged victims are a 33-year-old Indonesian woman and a 34-year-old Bangladeshi man.

"They lodged two police reports at 6pm yesterday. One for rape and one for robbery.

"They only came forward to the police (yesterday) because they were afraid we would arrest them, as the duo lost their documents during the May 11 incident," he told reporters at a press conference at the Serdang district police headquarters.

Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said the victims had sought shelter at their friends' residences in southern Malaysia immediately after the alleged crime took place.

"Both have valid documents and have been working in the country for between seven and 10 years," he added.

Megat said the duo had entered the premises as customers before the alleged criminals had pointed knives at their throats.

"They then brought the woman to a corner of the premises, in front of the toilet, and raped her.

"We will send her for an examination," he said.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at his home in Kuala Selangor on Sunday and has since been remanded until May 20 to facilitate investigations. Police are still hunting a second suspect.

A four-minute closed-circuit television (CCTV) video clip depicting the two men robbing the illegal gambling den and then taking turns sexually assaulting the cashier in a corner of the outlet went viral on social media, along with photos of the alleged suspect.

Megat said the case is being investigated under section 376 and 395 of the Penal Code for rape and robbery.
