Puchong landslide: 375 iron piles to be installed to prevent soil erosion

SERDANG: A total of 375 iron piles will be installed to immediately prevent any further soil erosion at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 Taman Wawasan, Puchong, where a landslide took place on Saturday.

Serdang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan, said the work is expected to take two weeks to complete.

He said occupants of the nine affected homes have been asked to evacuate their houses for now.

"Based on a report following a meeting with the Petaling District and Land Office, the Mineral and Geoscience Department as well as the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), installing these pilings is the best preliminary step.

The mitigation process, spanning an area measuring 150-metres, will see 375 iron pilings used to halt soil movement.

"At the same time, the DID will be shutting off water supply following a burst pipe caused by the landslide. Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) had also shut off power supply for now," he told reporters at the location on Sunday.

Anbalagan said that for now, the only affected areas are a row of homes in front of the landslide spot, and that other homes are safe.

However, he said they are still waiting for a full report from the Mineral and Geoscience Department on whether the occupants of the nine houses can go home, or if there is a need to evacuate even more people.

He said police will ensure the safety and security of the affected homes while repairs works are being done.

"If any of the residents wish to take any valuables or personal belongings from the houses, they can liaise directly with police personnel stationed at the scene.

"Nearby residents, meanwhile, are forbidden from approaching the area for their own safety as well as to ensure that repair works continue uninterrupted," he said.
