Vice den protection racket: Melaka Tengah CID chief released on bail

PUTRAJAYA: Melaka Tengah’s CID chief, who was being held in connection with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s clampdown on a police protection racket for Melaka gambling dens and massage parlours, has been released on bail.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman released 49-year-old Deputy Superintendent T. Gunasagaran on RM50,000 MACC bail after being remanded for seven days since May 23.

Gunasagaran was arrested at his office at the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters (IPD) on May 22.

To date, 13 people, including nine cops, have been detained by the MACC to assist the commission's investigation into a graft case involving Melaka vice dens.

They are being investigated under Section 16 (a) and 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti- Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
