Man who drove MyVi against traffic on Plus Highway surrenders

JOHOR BARU: Police have detained a 29-year-old man who claimed to be the driver of the Perodua MyVi car that was spotted driving against the traffic flow on the Plus Highway near Kulai yesterday.

The driver, from Pasir Gudang, surrendered himself to the Kulai police at 1am today.

State police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man admitted that he was the one driving the car that was seen going against the flow of traffic at KM34 of the North-South Expressway near the Kulai rest area.

"We are still investigating why he committed such a reckless stunt on the highway which can endanger other road users and also himself.

Police this morning obtained a four-day remand order against the man at the Kulai magistrate court.

Najmuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving which carries a jail sentence of up to five years and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000, upon conviction.
