New year chaos on EDL as Myvi driven against traffic causes five-car pile-up

JOHOR BARU: A Perodua Myvi which was driven against traffic on the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) here resulted in an accident involving four other vehicles early this morning.

Johor South district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said the incident occurred at 12.30am, after a four-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Triton driven by a 40-year-old local man failed to avoid the Myvi.

"The Myvi was driven by a 20-year-old local man in the right lane against the traffic.

"At the time of the violation, the four-wheel-drive vehicle overturned in the middle of the road, causing three other vehicles, a Honda City, Toyota Vios, and Audi A3, coming from the same direction to collide with the overturned vehicle and the Myvi.

"As a result of the collision, the Myvi driver suffered severe injuries and is still receiving treatment in the yellow zone ward at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA)," he said in a statement here today.

According to Raub, the driver and passengers of the other vehicles only suffered minor injuries.

The case is being investigated under section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
