Police nab man for drug, firecrackers possession

KEMAMAN: Police arrested a 34-year-old man for possessing six stimulant pills and firecrackers worth more than RM30,000 during in a raid at Kampung Gong Pauh, today.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said in the 1 am operation, a team of policemen from the Kemaman police station raided a hut in the village following a tip-off from the public.

Mohd Said said the suspect was found with six stimulant pills and further checks inside the hut, led police to a stash of firecrackers.

He said the man showed the police various types of firecrackers hidden inside boxes and gunny sacks, which were hidden in the hut.

He said the suspect has been taken to the Kemaman police station, where his statement was recorded.

Police obtained a four-day remand order on the man to assist in their investigations.

The suspect was being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possession of illegal explosive material and if convicted, the suspect could face up to seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine up of to RM10,000, or both.

“He is also being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug possession,” he added.
