Man high on drugs, threatens to kill children with samurai sword

KOTA KINABALU: A father, who was high on drugs, took out his frustration over his ex-wife on his young children.

District police chief assistant commissioner M. Chandra said the jobless man was disappointed that his ex-wife who is in Johor did not return home to celebrate Hari Raya.

“The 30-year-old man locked himself in the room with his two daughters, aged 4 and 5,” Chandra said, adding that the man had threatened to kill the children.

He said police rush to the scene in Kampung Suang Prai in Menggatal near here when they received a distress call.

The complainant told the police that he had smelled smoke coming from the locked room while trying to calm the man down.

He also saw the father burning something and pointing a samurai sword at one of his children’s throat.

After police negotiated with him, the man surrendered and both children are safe.

The 30-year-old father was brought to police station and will be remanded until Saturday.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of Penal code for attempted murder.
