Man beaten to death in viral video found positive for drugs, say police

PETALING JAYA: The man who was tied up and beaten to death in the incident at Taman Pelangi, Semenyih 2, on Feb 20, was found to be positive for drugs.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the 42-year-old victim tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.

"The results of the autopsy performed on the victim found that he was positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

"The review also found that the victim had 10 drug-related records in addition to being wanted for drug offences," he said.

He said this at a press conference in the Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Handover Ceremony at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD), here, today.

Hussein said that his party arrested two more individuals aged 22 and 39 in Kajang, yesterday, who were believed to be involved in the incident.

"We believe that there will be other individuals who will be arrested after this in connection with the incident.

"In addition, we have also received a report made by two vehicle owners involved in the incident.

"It is understood that during the incident, the victim hit two other vehicles before being found dead, believed to be the result of an assault," he said.

He said his party is still investigating the motive of the incident after the results of the autopsy found that there were no significant injuries on the victim that caused death.

"Because of that, we are still waiting for the results of the laboratory analysis to identify the cause of the victim's death," he said.

He also asked the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to help the investigation.

"We will see what people write on social media related to the case, if they can be called to testify to help the investigation.

"At the same time, we advise the public not to exaggerate and make up stories related to this case.

"This is because it will affect the investigation carried out by the police and cause annoyance to the public," he said.

Previously, Harian Metro reported that a man was not only pulled out of the car by members of the public after the accident but his hands were tied and he was beaten to death.

The tragic incident happened after the man who was driving a grey Proton Saga was involved in an accident with a food delivery man.

Immediately after the accident, the victim was chased by members of the public to Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, before his car skidded and hit the fence of a residential area.
