Melaka lorry driver charged with kidnap, abduction of teenage brothers

MELAKA: A lorry driver was charged today with kidnapping and abducting two teenage brothers seven years ago.

K. Bala Subramaniam, 42, claimed trial to both charges before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

Bala was first charged with kidnapping a minor who was aged 12 then, from the latter's guardian at a house in Taman Seri Hilir, On Lok, Batang Melaka between 6.30pm and 8pm on Sept 2, 2010.

The offence under Section 361 of the Penal Code for kidnapping from lawful guardianship is punishable with a maximum imprisonment of seven years and fine.

Bala was also charged with using deceitful means to induce a teenager who was aged 15 then, to leave his home in Taman Seri Hilir, On Lok, Batang Melaka to an oil palm plantation in Taman Seri Hilir, On Lok, Batang Melaka at the same time and location.

The offence under Section 362 of the Penal Code for abduction, also carries a maximum jail sentence of seven years and fine.

No bail was offered by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Ruvinna Mohd Rawi as to prevent the accused from possibly disturbing the prosecuting witnesses.

The case was fixed for mention on Aug 2.
