Police rearrest teen thieves after daring escape

TAMPIN: Police have re-arrested three teenagers who escaped from police custody last Friday.

The three were detained for breaking into a handphone shop at Taman Kasturi Gemencheh’s commercial centre last Friday.

Tampin district police chief Superintendent Hamazah Ab Razak said the three suspects, all 15 years of age, entered the premise at 10pm on July 7 through a window in the bathroom at the back of the shop and escaped with five mobile phones and a power bank.

“The robbery was discovered by the owner the next day at 11am when he opened for business.”

The owner then lodged a police report in Gemencheh.

Hamazah said following the report, the police launched an investigation and arrested the three suspects on the same day.

However, the teens managed to escape police custody by unscrewing and removing the grille of a small window in the bathroom.

Police managed to track down the three and rearrested them at 10pm on Tuesday.

“Investigations showed that one of the teenagers is still schooling while the other two are school dropouts.

“We also recovered all five mobile phones and the power bank,” he said.

The suspects will be remanded for five days until next Monday and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
