Student in road rage viral video charged with committing mischief

KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old law student who was involved in a road rage incident, the viral video of which went viral recently, was charged at the magistrate’s court here today with committing mischief by ramming his car into others’.

S. Simran Singh, clad in a white shirt, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by a court translator before Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid.

He allegedly commited the offence by reversing his car and hitting another car belonging to Mohd Kamil Mokhtar, 49, near Jalan Pahang heading towards Jalan Genting Klang about 12.45pm on July 13.

The offence falls under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries imprisonment of up to five years or with a fine or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Elynna Hanim Abd Halim, who appeared for the prosecution, asked for no bail to be offered to the accused as the offence is a non-bailable one.

However, Simran’s lawyer Datuk Jasbeer Singh Kaura pleaded for a lower bail as his client is a student.

The court set bail at RM2,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 9 for mention.

A video went viral last week showing Simran and Mohd Kamil confronting each other after being allegedly involved in a road accident. The scene prompted nearby motorists to intervene to calm the situation.

The video showed Simran trying to ram his car into Kamil’s Naza Ria as the latter was taking a picture of the former’s car.

This led Kamil to punch and kick Simran’s vehicle.

The enraged Simran was then caught raising his middle finger towards Kamil before he left the scene.
