Three civil servants remanded three days over bribery probe

KOTA KINABALU: Three civil servants have been remanded for five days to facilitate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s probe into a bribery case.

The remand order, which begins today, was issued by Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi after allowing the application by MACC under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The trio, who are enforcement staff from the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry’s Beaufort division, arrived at the magistrate’s court here at 10.30am.

Yesterday, Sabah MACC had arrested the trio at their workplace between 12.25pm and 12.40pm, following a complaint lodged on July 19 by a business owner.

The business owner had claimed that the enforcement staff demanded a RM600 bribe on July 14 in exchange for action not to be taken over weighing/measuring offences under Section 10 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
