KUALA LUMPUR: Two Indonesian maids have lodged a police report against their employer for allegedly abusing and underpaying them.
The victims, aged 20 and 22, who came into the country in 2015 and 2013 respectively, claimed they were also threatened by their employer, who runs a pharmacy.
Their ordeal came to light after they ran away from their employer last Saturday (July 29) and sought help from a community policing association.
According to the association’s president, Kuan Chee Heng, the victims claimed they were repeatedly beaten by their employer with a cane and a clothes hanger.
They also claimed they were paid only RM600 per month for the past few years, and that their passports were withheld by the employer.
The employer, they claimed, had also threatened to pour hot water on them and “sell” them to Thailand as prostitutes if they lodged a police report or attempted to run away.
Kuan said he brought the victims to Brickfields police station after learning about their predicament.
Meanwhile, Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid when contacted said the case is being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
He said the victims have been sent to a hospital to undergo a medical examination, and that police are awaiting the report.
He added that they are now under the care of the Indonesian embassy here.
