Seven NGOs lodge police reports against Azmin, Shah Alam councillor on Najib claims

SHAH ALAM: Seven non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have lodged police reports against two people for making baseless allegations in blaming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the violence at the Nothing To Hide 2.0 forum.

The duo are Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Shah Alam City Council councillor Papparaidu Veraman.

The seven police reports were lodged by the Malaysian Malay Registered Voters Association (PMBM), Perkasa Parliament Kota Raja and Perkasa Selangor, Selangor Hindu Social Welfare Association, Subang Umno Youth, Gerakan Team Boss 38, Gerakan Biro Bersatu Abata and Alif Ba Ta Srikandi Mahsyur.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the reports, PMBM vice-president Nazilah Idris said the duo (Azmin and Papparaidu) were responsible for the allegations made against Najib.

“They claimed Najib had used elements of gangsterism to disrupt the forum. We want them to prove their claims. If they fail to do so, we will ensure action will be taken against them for making false claims.

“This is a serious matter. Such a slanderous statement will only result in chaos in the end,” she said at the Shah Alam district police headquarters here today.

Perkasa Selangor president Borhan Ahmad Zakaria said such false claims would not benefit any party, but will only disrupt peace and stability.

“Police must be transparent in investigating this matter. This is an unruly political culture. Besides, how can they (Azmin and Papparaidu) make such claims when police are still investigating the case?”

On Sunday, a commotion broke out at the Nothing To Hide 2.0 forum about 90 minutes into the event, shortly after an audience member asked former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad about the 1985 Memali incident in Kedah.

The incident went on for about half an hour. Troublemakers began throwing shoes, chairs and bottles at Dr Mahathir. Two flares were also set off in the venue. At least two people were injured.

Six people have so far been picked up to assist investigations over the case.
