Man who impersonated the late Johor Prince arrested

JOHOR BARU: A man, who impersonated the late Johor prince Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim and posted an offensive remark, was arrested yesterday.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the 38-year-old unemployed man was arrested in Larkin near here and was remanded until Sunday to help investigations.

"Police received a complaint on Monday at about 9.55pm about the misuse of social media.

"There was a fake Facebook account by someone impersonating the late Tunku Laksamana Johor and this person uttered an insulting remark against the Tunku Laksamana Johor," said Khalil in a statement.

The state police received information about the Facebook page and tracked down the man.

It is learnt that the man used Tunku Laksamana Johor’s name and uploaded photographs of the royal family on the Facebook profile.

The case is being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by personation.

Those convicted under this offence could be jailed up to seven years or fined or both.

"The Johor police advises social media users against abusing any social media platform and going against the law.

"Strict action will be taken without compromise on anyone who misuses social media, and such people will be hunted down and dealt with under Malaysian laws," said Khalil.
