Geng Along Mamak ringleader, lover jailed for robbery

MELAKA: The mastermind of Geng Along Mamak and his lover were sentenced to jail at the Melaka Sessions Court today for robbery and possessing stolen items.

The mastermind, Mohamad Fazree Abdullah, 30, was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Norma Ismail after he pleaded guilty two charges of robbing a college student and possessing stolen items last July.

Mohamad Fazree was first charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code with robbing Siti Shahira Ismail, 19, at Jambatan Panglima Awang about 6.15pm on July 2, 2016.

He was also charged with possessing an identity card belonging to the same victim under Rule 25(1)(e) of National Registration Rules 1990 at 5.20pm at July 30, 2017 at No. 11, Jalan TW2, Taman Woon, Tampin Town in Negeri Sembilan.

Mohamad Fazree, who was unrepresented, in mitigating for a lower sentence, said he had to take care of his single mother and a sibling.

Norma sentenced him to five years' jail for the first charge and 12 months' jail for the second charge. Both sentences will run concurrently from the date of his arrest on July 28 this year.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban.

At the magistrate's court before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh, Mohamad Fazree also pleaded guilty to four counts of possessing stolen items belonging to two female victims, including handbags and other documents.

The offences were committed on July 25, 2017 and 30 July, 2017 at various locations in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

For the first and second charge, Mohd Firdaus sentenced Mohamad Fazree to five months' jail while for the third and fourth charge, he was sentenced to seven months' jail. His jail term will run from the date of his arrest on July 28, this year.

At the same magistrate's court, Mohd Fazree's girlfriend, also a gang member of the robbery group, pleaded guilty to the possession of stolen items.

Siti Nurain Affendi, 24 pleaded guilty to all three counts of charges for possessing stolen items belonging to two victims on July 25, 2017 and July 26, 2017 in Melaka.

For the first charge, Mohd Firdaus ordered Siti Nurain to be jailed for five months while for the second and third charge, she was sentenced to seven months' jail. All the jail sentences are to be served from the date of her arrest on July 27, this year.

Deputy public prosecutors N. Sivashangari, Muhammad Asraf Mohamed Tahir and Muhammad Azri Zakaria prosecuted, while the accused were not represented by counsel.

It was reported previously that Geng Along Mamak was responsible for 21 snatch theft cases in the state.

Their modus operandi involved the female suspect pretending to ask for directions while the male suspect snatched valuables from the victims.

It was also reported that police were also hunting for four other suspects of the gang, who were aged between 24 and 35.
