SEREMBAN: A 22-year-old man was charged at the Magistrate Court here today for murdering an elderly citizen earlier this month.
Chong Kar Boon was accused of murdering Gan Swee Eng, 70, at Jalan Tuanku Munawir on Sept 7 at 4.10am.
Clad in a brown t-shirt, no plea was recorded from the suspect who hails from Seremban Jaya, after the charge was read out by the court interpreter before Magistrate Rahimah Rahim.
For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence if convicted
Deputy Public Prosecutor Soo Kok Weng prosecuted while the accused was represented by Datuk Hamdan Majid and T L Chen.
The court has set Nov 16 for re-mention.
