Secondary school students among 226 nabbed for drug-related offences, including trafficking

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police arrested a total of 226 students, including secondary schoolers, for drug-related cases between Jan and Aug this year.

Its chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said among those nabbed were students found to be involved in drug pushing activities.

"Selangor police in our anti-narcotics operations until August this year arrested 226 students from institutions of higher learning and schools for various drug-related offences.

"These include cases that are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking," he told reporters during a press conference at the state police headquarters, here this morning.

Mazlan said police found that drug abuse among school students mostly involved heroin, ganja and methamphetamine, which are easily accessible to the group.

He said police have set up a platform with the state Education Department to address issues of students’ involvement in crime, including drug abuse and trafficking.

He added that the two agencies will meet at least once every three months and work closely to tackle these issues.
