Rave party busted before it could take off in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Police detained 74 youths aged between 16 to 33 before the start of what was believed to be a drug-fueled rave party in Kempas here early today.

The 48 men and 26 women were detained in a raid by a 20 members from the Johor Criminal Investigation Department and Johor Baru Utara police at about 1.30am.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Azman Ayob said the party's organiser had spread the word about the event through the WeChat social media app several days ago.

Out of the total people detained, 22 people comprising 16 men and six women tested positive for various drug use.

Police also seized eight ecstasy pills, 12 Eramin 5 pills, a packet filled with what is believe to be Ketamine was also seized during the raid.

The youths had been playing music loudly and had alcohol served to then when the police team arrived.

Other items found in the two-storey bungalow was a music turntable with laptop, speaker system, 42 passes written with the words "raver" and "DJ".

Johor Baru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said that among the 74 people detained was a 21-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, who allegedly organised the event.

Another six men acted as "helpers" of the organisers.

"Initial investigation revealed that the organisers charged RM20 for each woman and RM30 for each man in the party," said Taib, adding that the latest case was similar to another drug-fueled party in Tanjung Sepat, Kota Tinggi in May this year.
