Court fines RTD officer RM10,000 for taking RM1,000 bribe

SEREMBAN: A Road Transport Department (RTD) officer was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment and a fine of RM10,000 by the Seremban Sessions Court today, for receiving bribes.

Judge Fathiyah Idris meted out the sentence after the accused, Md Zamri Atan @ Mohd Salleh, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The accused was alleged to have received RM1,000 from Ng Ken Hing as an inducement to speed up and obtain reports of the latter’s Perodua Myvi's vehicle inspection.

The offense was committed at the State’s RTD Automotive Engineering Division at 11am, on July 15, 2013.

For the offense, the accused was charged under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act which provides for imprisonment of not more than 20 years or a fine of five times the bribe.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurdiyanah Mohd Nawawi prosecuted while the accused was represented by Shareen Rosli.
