Four men get 5 years' jail for robbing chicken rice seller at gunpoint

KUALA LUMPUR: The four men who had robbed a woman at gunpoint in Jalan Ipoh here five months ago were sentenced to five years’ jail by the Sessions Court today.

Judge Shamsudin Abdullah handed down the sentence on despatch riders Mohamad Sezerie Sepandi, 37, and Nur Zazren Sharul Johari, 34, farmhand N. Navachandren, 35, and Mohd Kamsaiddy Kamaruddin, 32, who is jobless, after they pleaded guilty to the offence.

The quartet admitted to robbing 61-year-old businesswoman Ang Chin Ai of her Toyota Land Cruiser in front of a Hainanese chicken rice shop at Lot 651-1, Batu 4 1/2, in Jalan Ipoh here about 7am on April 24.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Kamsaiddy and Navachandren were jointly charged with robbing taxi driver Mohd Yusof A. Gani @Burani, 69, of RM20 at the Kerayong Chinese Cemetery in Jalan Istana Lama, Brickfields, here at 10.15am on July 4.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Akmal Farhan Aziz, in urging for a deterrent sentence, said what the two accused did to the victim, who was a senior citizen, was heartless.

According to the facts of the case, the two accused had attacked the victim by strangling and punching him before taking money from the his pocket.

All accused were unrepresented.
