Datuk probed over alleged PTPK embezzlement released on bail

PUTRAJAYA: A political secretary of the Human Resources Minister, who was remanded for nine days as part of a probe into alleged misappropriation of government funds, was released today.

Magistrate Ainna Sherina Saipolamin ordered the 61-year-old Datuk to be released on RM30,000 bail.

The man, clad in a casual shirt and jeans, covered his face from the media as he was ushered out of the magistrate’s court here at about 10am.

The Datuk, who is a Serian branch member of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), was detained at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here last week after having his statement recorded.

He was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for offering or accepting gratification by agent.

It was reported that the probe involved the misappropriation of funds channelled to the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK).

Others arrested were PTPK’s 58-year-old chief executive, who is also a Datuk; PTPK’s secretary, 34; a PTPK assistant finance officer, 32; and a company director, 38.

It was reported that the four allegedly embezzled RM15 million in 2016 and RM25 million this year.

The PTPK was established in June 2006 under the Skills Development Fund Act 2004 (Act 640) to manage the Skills Development Fund, which was previously run by the Skills Development Fund Division under the Human Resources Ministry.
