Three more held by MACC to assist probe into stolen rural funds

KUALA LUMPUR: Three more people, including Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) youth chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over mishandling of Federal funds meant for rural development projects in Sabah.

Two other politicians, both Umno Youth division chiefs from Sabah, were also held.

They were arrested separately around 5pm at Sabah MACC headquarters and Tawau MACC office.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki when contacted confirmed the arrest.

Azis was called in to MACC office at Wisma 1 Sulaiman in Kota Kinabalu for second time this morning.

He had earlier given his statement to MACC on Sunday night over the alleged misappropriation of RM1.5billion worth of federal development funds.

The trio are expected to be brought to Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for remand application.

Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr also confirmed Azis’ arrest when contacted.

On Oct 5, MACC detained Warisan vice president Datuk Peter Anthony and a businessman at Sabah MACC office after the duo gave their statements.

Another former deputy secretary of a division in the Regional and Rural Development Ministry was detained on the same day at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

The trio has since been remanded until Oct 10.
