Sandakan police yield syabu, methamphetamine worth RM55,000 from 2 drug busts

SANDAKAN: The district police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) seized syabu or methamphetamine worth RM55,000 in two separate drug busts on Saturday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said the first case involved the arrest of a 34-years-old Filipino in Kg TB Ward at 1.45pm on October 7.

A team of policemen from the NCID nabbed the suspect and seized crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 50.4g from his waist pouch, Mohd Azhar said on Monday.

The police also believed the illicit drug worth RM 5,000 was meant to be sold in the Mile 2 and Mile 3 areas.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman was arrested at a bus stop near Bandar Leila with RM 50,000 worth of syabu, Mohd Azhar said.

The woman was detained at about 4.35pm after a NCID team seized 10 packets of suspected syabu weighing 500.4g from her.

"Both cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (trafficking in dangerous drugs)," Mohd Azhar said.

The district police chief thanked the public for the information that led to the two arrests.
