PKR assemblyman charged with obstructing police officer to know fate on Friday

KANGAR: PKR’s Indera Kayangan assemblyman Chan Ming Kai who has been charged with obstructing a police officer will know his fate on Friday.

Magistrate Mohd Azhar Hamzah had set Friday to sentence Chan as the court needed time to decide.

Chan was charged with obstructing Inspector M. Kaneson and Perlis Comm Sdn Bhd workers from installing a telecommunications tower in April last year.

He had allegedly stood in the middle of the road in Taman Jati Diri with the intention to block vehicles carrying building materials under the supervision of the police about 8.30am on April 6.

He was detained for refusing to leave the site even after being ordered by the police officer not to disrupt the workers.

Chan was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries up to two years’ jail, a fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
