Fight settled amicably, nothing to do with racial sentiment, says police

SUNGAI PETANI: Police have dismissed claims that the heated argument which escalated into a fight between an Indian man and a group of Malay teenagers was triggered by racial sentiment as viraled on social media.

Kuala Muda district deputy police chief Superintendent Saifi Abd Hamid said investigations revealed that the incident took place spontaneously and the issue had been resolved amicably among all parties involved.

He said a police report was lodged by a 14-year-old teenager at 8.30am today claiming that he was firing shots from the toy gun which he was playing with five other friends at Jalan Kenanga here while waiting for their football game to start.

However, he added, the group accidently fired the shots towards an Indian family's house nearby and the bullets hit the roof.

"Upset over the incident, a man came out of the house and scolded the group before slapping one of them and kicking his motorcycle.

"Following the report, the man, the teenagers, their families and representatives of the residential area were called to the Kuala Muda district police headquarters.

"After a one and half hour discussion from 5pm, both parties admitted their wrongdoings and apologised to each other. Considering no serious injuries or damage have been inflicted, they agreed not to prolong the matter and to resolve it amicably," he said in a press statement here.
