JOHOR BARU: The seven Muar policemen who were caught on video allegedly consorting with an illegal gambling ‘taukeh’ at an entertainment centre here earlier this month have been permanently transferred to other states.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the transfers, which were ordered by the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters, were made following the conclusion of a disciplinary probe into the incident.
He added that one of them, a corporal, was stripped off his detective duties and reassigned to non-frontline work.
"The transfers did not affect their ranks, only their duties. (Their new roles) do not require them to be on the field," said Khalil during the monthly state police assembly at the Johor police headquarters today.
The seven officers appeared in a video clip that went viral on Oct 11, which featured them letting loose at a club in Bakri, Muar with a suspected criminal.
The officers comprise a police station chief with the rank of inspector, a corporal, a detective corporal and four lance corporals.
"As police officers, all of us are aware that if we don't follow orders and (value) integrity, we are a liability to the force," said Khalil.
Meanwhile, on the Segamat case involving two policemen who were allegedly caught on camera flirting with a woman believed to be a prostitute, Khalil said the status of the two officers is unchanged.
He said the disciplinary probe on the two policemen will be completed soon.
The two officers have been reassigned to desk duties at the same Segamat police headquarters pending the completion of their investigation.
They comprise a corporal and a lance corporal.
