Kuching police re-arrest suspected robber who fled police custody on Monday

SIMUNJAN: Police have re-arrested a suspected robber who escaped police custody on Monday.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said 34-year-old Zulkipli Murni was caught at a house in Kampung Kelka at about 1pm Tuesday.

“The Kuching district CID together with their counterpart have been working endlessly to locate and arrest the suspect within 24 hours after his escaped,” Dev said in a statement.

He added Zulkipli was rearrested from the house of his friend.

According to Kuching district deputy police chief Superintendent Abang Junaidi Abang Anuar, Zulkipli managed to slip out of his handcuffs, before stealing out of the temporary detention room and fleeing the scene.

Policemen, who saw Zulkipli running out of the room, gave chase but lost the suspect when he jumped into a white Proton Iswara, which waiting outside the police headquarters.

It was reported that Abang Junaidi had said that investigation is being conducted to find out if there were any element of negligence that led to the escape.
