Lorry driver involved in fatal crash near Seremban R&R remanded

SEREMBAN : Police have remanded until Tuesday a lorry driver who is believed to have caused an accident at KM270.3 on the North-South Expressway which killed two people on Friday.

The remand order was issued by Seremban magistrate court assistant registrar Emysuriana Muhammad Subry following a request by Nilai Traffic Enforcement and Investigation officer Inspector Mohd Syafiq Azmy.

The remand order will enable the police to investigate the man under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The 59-year old man was seen wearing a blue shirt and shorts when he arrived at the court in a police van at 10.11am together with other detainees.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Zaldino Zaludin said on Saturday that the man has been identified as 29-year old P. Kanes from Bukit Rotan, Selangor.

In the 5.30pm incident near the Seremban R&R on Friday, Lau Lian Huat, 62, and his wife, Lim Ah Gim, 60, were killed on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.

The driver of south-bound trailer was believed to have lost control of the vehicle after one of its tyres burst.

The lorry then hit the road divider before it swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into the couple's Perodua Alza.

Two other vehicles, a Proton Waja and Proton Preven, were also involved in the accident, injuring three other victims,

A dashcam video of the accident has gone viral.

The driver of the Proton Waja, Mohamad Tahir Othman, 51, suffered serious injuries.

Two other victims Azian Saleh, 45, and Abdul Rahim Ramlee, 52, who were travelling in the Proton Preve, were suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the trailer fled after the accident but surrendered at the Nilai district police station on Saturday.
