Mother, 2 sons among 9 nabbed for drug abuse in Arau

PADANG BESAR: A 40-year-old woman and her two teenage sons were detained by the Perlis National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) for drug abuse yesterday.

The woman and her sons, aged 18 and 19, were nabbed at their rented house in Mata Ayer, Arau at 9am. The teenagers' friend was also picked up at the same house.

Perlis Nada director Azizah Ahmad said all four were tested positive for methamphetamine.

"Based on initial investigation, the woman has been involved with drugs since 10 years ago after her divorce.

"Her two sons admitted that they usually take drugs with their mother and friend at home.

"They used money they earned from doing odd jobs to buy supplies," she said in a statement.

Azizah said in the operation that started at 8am yesterday and ended at 2.30am today, the team also nabbed a 22-year-old woman, two Thai men and two Malaysians in separate raids at Beseri and Kg Belukar Lenga.

They were were also tested positive for methamphetamine.

"One of the men is being investigated under Section 6(2)(d) of the Drugs Dependants Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983 for violating an order of supervision againsts consuming, using or possessing any dangerous drugs.

"While the others are being detained for further investigations under Section 3 (1) of the same act for drug addiction," she said.
