He said initial investigation revealed that the suspect acted alone, and police have secured a seven-day remand order against the man, who has previous conviction for house trespassing.

"During the raid, police also seized a black shirt, a pair of blue jeans, a pair of red shoes and a cellular phone as well as the key to the car.

"The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, and Section 392/397 of the same code for armed robbery," he said.

It was reported that the university student was raped and robbed by a man who pretended to ask for direction in Section 7 here.

The 8.30pm incident happened when the victim, aged 22, was walking towards a bus stop after shopping at a ‘pasar malam’ (night market).
