Police arrest man threatening 70-year-old aunt with scissors; squeezing her for money

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 29-year-old man was remanded after threatening his 70-year-old aunt with a pair of scissor for the second time at a house in Kampung Losong on Monday.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Fazlisyam Abdul Majid said the suspect was picked up from the same house soon after the aunt lodged a report at the police station on the same day.

Fazlisyam said the first incident occurred on Nov 10, when the suspect, also armed with a pair of scissors approached the victim to ask for money at 5pm.

"The suspect threatened to harm her with the weapon before the victim managed to escape to her relative's house nearby," he said.

He said the victim was confronted again by the suspect who asked for RM200 from her, yesterday.

"To calm the suspect, the victim gave him RM50," he said, adding that fearing for her safety, the aunt later has lodged a report at the police station.

Fazlisyam said police obtained a four-day remand order against the suspect at the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for extortion.
