(Update) Kelantan MACC nab police sergeant for soliciting, receiving bribe

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a policeman for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of RM2,000 in exchange for releasing a detainee whose urine had tested positive for illicit drugs.

Kelantan MACC director Datuk Moh Shamsudin Yusof said the 29-year-old sergeant was detained at his workplace in Jeli yesterday afternoon.

Moh Shamsudin said the policeman was picked up soon after the MACC received a report from the drug suspect.

"The policeman is expected to be remanded this morning," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.

The MACC obtained a remand order on the police sergeant at about noon today.

The six-day remand order, which ends on Nov 21, was issued by Kota Baru magistrate registrar officer Nor Faizah Abdullah.

Nor Faizah allowed the suspect to be remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
