TASEK GELUGOR: Police are hunting for two men who fled after ramming into a patrol car and attempted to mow down a policeman here on Saturday.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police received a call from a member of the public on a suspicious looking car around noon yesterday.
He said two personnel were sent to the check in on the report and found a Honda Odyssey with three men inside.
He added that further checks in the system found the car's registration plate was registered to a Toyota Vios.
"One of the policemen approached the car and identified himself as the police but they ignored him.
"The men then suddenly rammed into the patrol car and attempted to mow down the personnel.
"In self-defence, the other personnel then fired two shots, one of which hit the bonnet of the car. The suspects managed to flee into a nearby oil palm estate, abandoned the car there and escaped on foot," he said on Sunday.
Noorzainy said police have identified the three men and during its Op Cantas operation, detained one of the three men in front of a house in Kampung Selamat at 3pm on the same day.
"We have taken him into custody and have obtained a remand order against him. Checks showed that he had a previous criminal and drug-related record.
"We are in the process of hunting down the other two suspects," he added.
The case is being investigated for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
