MACC nabs clerk for allegedly bribing Melaka city council enforcement personnel

MELAKA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested a 30-year-old clerk suspected of bribing Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) enforcement officers near here.

The female suspect was detained at the ship maintenance company's office at about 1pm. She was then taken to the MACC office in Alai, Melaka for further action.

It is understood that the woman offered a RM1,000 bribe to MBMB senior law enforcement officer who was leading the raid at Batang Tiga, Tanjung Kling here.

She allegedly offered the bribe to coax them not issue a stop-operation notice to the company.

State MACC director Abu Talib Othman when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

In the raid, MBMB issued stop work orders on two companies carrying out welding and repair works without permit for over a year.

The company's operations are also said to have caused pollution due to the use of chemicals.

The case was investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009 for offering gratification.
