Foreign Mechanical Engineering student busted in Kajang for peddling cannabis

KAJANG: A Bangladeshi undergraduate has been arrested for allegedly distributing drugs to students at various universities in the district here.

The 23-year-old’s illicit activity raised the suspicion of members of the public who eventually reported him to the police.

Following the tip-off, a team of policemen ambushed the man’s room on his university campus at 4pm on Sunday, and seized 4,000 grams of drugs worth RM12,000.

“The raiding team found four chunks of drugs, wrapped in foil, believed to be cannabis… stashed in the man’s room at the campus.

“Initial investigations revealed that the man has been actively selling drugs for the past two years,” Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said.

He said the man, who is a Mechanical Engineering and Electronics student at the university, is believed to have been pushing the drugs on students at the university and others nearby.

Dzaffir said the man has been studying at the university since 2014, and was expected to graduate in 2019.

He has been remanded for a week from the day he was arrested. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
