Johor petrol station murder: Killers used fake number plates

JOHOR BARU: The killers captured on video murdering a man at a Taman Pelangi petrol station last night, had used a fake registration plate for their vehicle.

The white BMW 520i car bore a number plate which belonged to another vehicle, police checks have shown.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said police have recorded a statement from the owner of the vehicle with the actual, and confirmed that he was unrelated to the case.

"The actual car owner has been successfully traced and interviewed, and he is not related to this case," said Khalil in a statement.

He also confirmed the cause of death of the man, who was stabbed and mowed over twice in the 7.30pm incident last night.

"The victim died due to being stabbed in the heart. This was confirmed by the Sultanah Aminah Hospital through a post mortem examination," he said.

He said police have also identified the four suspects involved in the case and that efforts are ongoing to hunt them down.

He urged members of the public with knowledge of the case to contact the nearest police station or the Johor Police Hotline at 07-221 2999.

The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was killed after he was stabbed and run over by four men in a BMW at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi.

Just before the incident, the man was filling his car tyres when the four men tried to pull him into their vehicle.

The victim was with his Vietnamese wife at the time. She ran away to get help when her husband was attacked and was unhurt.

The whole incident was captured on video thanks to a bystander.
