Kelantan police detains man for attempting to blow up Rantau Panjang ICQS complex

TUMPAT: Kelantan police thwarted and detained a man for attempting to blow up Rantau Panjang's Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said the 30-year old suspect was arrested at a roadblock last night by Border Control Agency (AKSEM) officers from the Chabang Empat Salam, Rantau Panjang branch at 11.30pm.

Hasanuddin said the 30-year-old suspect from Pandamaran, Klang was riding a motorcycle in a suspicious manner and was aggressive and struggled when apprehended.

"Following interrogation, the suspect confessed that he wanted to detonate the Rantau Panjang ICQS complex and the AKSEM guard post.

"After searching the suspect's duffel bag, we found a plastic containing yellow powder, a knife, a pair of scissors, a screwdriver, copper wires, batteries and a passport belonging to the suspect," he said at a press conference, here at Tumpat police district office.

He said the suspect is on the wanted list for a case under Section 6 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960 and also had other drug-related offences.

The suspect was also found positive for methamphetamine and will undergo checks to see if he is mentally ill.

Earlier, Hasanuddin attended the handing over ceremony of the new Tumpat police chief, Superintendent Ab Rashid Mat Daud, replacing Superintendent Mohamed Zulmazi Che Daud.

Ab Rashid was previously the Deputy Chief of Police in the district of Lipis, Pahang.
