Car driver in fatal crash that killed two mosquito bikers remanded

PONTIAN: The driver of a car involved in the crash that killed two mosquito bike riders was remanded four days here.

The 38-year-old man was held by police to assist their investigations into the accident at Jalan Pekan Nanas last night.

District police chief Superintendent Zakaria Abdul Rahman confirmed the arrest and remand of the suspect.

Investigations will be carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving, he said.

"From initial investigation the incident happened when the driver who was coming from Ulu Pulai heading to Pekan Nanas tried to overtake another vehicle infront of him.

“In doing so, the vehicle appeared to have crashed into the group of youths who were riding the bicycles by the road side," Zakaria said.

“It was raining at the time.”

Two boys. Muhammad Amiruddin Abd Majid, 12, and Ibnu Ahmad Ahmadnaizl, 15, were killed in the accident. Two others were injured.

The family of the deceased had claimed the bodies this morning.
