AMPANG: The boy who claimed he was almost abducted by two men in a white van, here, has retracted his report.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias said the 12-year-old boy, during questioning, confessed that he made up the story.
“He made up the tale as he was depressed at not being allowed to play, and was instead made to focus on his studies,” Hamzah said in a statement.
Hamzah advised members of the public not to circulate messages without knowing its veracity, as it would spark unnecessary panic.
On Friday, the boy had alleged that two men in a white van had attempted to abduct him while he was waiting for a school bus in Pandan Indah.
The boy had claimed that he escaped after biting one of the perpetrators’ hand.
The case, and a picture of the police report made on the incident subsequently went viral on social media.
