Police continues investigation on teacher biting pupil case despite 'sogit' ceremony

PENAMPANG: Police investigations are continuing against the teacher reported to have bitten his pupil, despite the 'sogit' ceremony held at school yesterday.

District police chief deputy superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the police report filed by the parents of the Year Four pupil has not been retracted, despite both parties settling the matter via Kadazandusun custom.

He said the police has yet to be informed of the reconciliation between both parties, and the probe will continue according to procedure.

"This matter will also be referred to the deputy prosecutor for further instructions.

"Based on initial investigations, the teacher admitted to committing the act because he cared for the pupil," he told reporters after an event at a secondary school here.

On Tuesday, the teacher paid the customary fine in the form of a rooster witnessed by Kampung Kituao village chief, following the biting incident last week.
