Woman, brother in-law charged with offering bribe to policeman [NSTTV]

ALOR STAR: A woman and her brother-in-law claimed trial at a Sessions court here with offering a RM2,000 bribe to a traffic policemen three years ago.

M. Indrani, 27 and her brother in-law, Lim Gait Heng, 25, claimed trial to the charge when it was read to them in Tamil by court interpreter before judge Azman Abu Hassan this morning.

The duo were alleged to have offered RM2,000 to Corporal Mohd Hilmi Ismail as an inducement for the latter to release Lim’s sibling, Lim Gait Hong and Lim Gait Kuang who were arrested for drug offences under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1951.

The duo was accused with committing the offence at Kulim Traffic police station here on Nov 7, 2015 at about 10.15am.

They were charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) Act 2009 and could be penalised under Section 24 of the same Act.

Both are liable to face up to 20 year’s jail and fine five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Azman fixed March 19 for mention and set bail at RM3,000 with one surety for each of the accused.

Indrani and Lim were not represented while MACC prosecuting officer Syahrul Khuzaini Amiruddin mentioned the case.
